Debugging your PHP Script To Track Problems
Published : May 20, 2012 | Author : bunutu | Unrated
As we develop increasingly complex web applications, it becomes harder to track issues and errors. PHP does provide you with fairly detailed error notices but very often, the problem is not actually with the syntax but with the logic, resulting in unexpected output. This is the hardest to track because PHP does not actually report any error. I’m sure I wasn’t the only developer who relied on tens of print_r’s to debug mysterious issues. This is fine for small applications but as the size grows, so does the hassle involved in removing each print_r once the issue has been solved.

How to Enable VNC Through SSH
Published : May 18, 2012 | Author : bunutu | Unrated
Connecting to a server via SSH instead of VNC is always a more secure choice when on the road. However, if you are unable to interact with a program properly through the command line, you may need to enable VNC to accomplish certain tasks. Since each VNC server functions a little differently, there are different ways to enable each from the command line. While popular servers such as TightVNC and x11vnc can be automatically enabled from the command line, launching Vino or another service may be a little more difficult.

Backup your system and data easily with rsync and rdiff-backup
Published : May 18, 2012 | Author : bunutu | Unrated
rsync is the best utility for mirroring. rdiff-backup is very convenient for versioning in addition to mirroring, it is like a time machine which let you rollback your data state to any previous backup done and it keeps only data difference on the disk saving a lot of disk space for you.

NginxSimpleCGI
Published : May 18, 2012 | Author : bunutu | Unrated
For the most part, lack of CGI support in Nginx is not an issue and actually has an important side-benefit: because Nginx cannot directly execute external programs (CGI), a malicious person can't trick your system into uploading and executing an arbitrary script.

    Random Pick
By default in linux you get a message saying something like You have new mail in when you log into a linux machine. Sometimes this gets annoying because you always have new mail, or because there seems to be a delay while checking the mail or because the mail is actually stored on some kind of remote disk. Disabling this setting is easy.
